Here is a rough preview. It's not even a months worth of progress. [Clickety Click]
I have a rough understanding of 3D concepts due to school and OG help from Nobby on teaching me basic concepts back in the day. I'm learning something new every time I work on the mod
I'm a beta tester as well. In addition to beta testing I'm making my first car mod. An Acura Integra Type R with a JDM front end conversion (what I drive in irl haha)
Would love to hear some news on it. I saw that it had moved to turbo duck but couldn't really find info.. Its alive? Any info would be interesting, Audrey thanks!
Yooo it’s been a phat minute. Hope y’all are doin good. Saw that test drive is makin a comeback which is so dope. Cant wait to see what they come up with
I've really witnessed a whole lot of effort put into custom car paintjobs. I've always wanted to make a "Monster" paintjob for my Black series but I am incapable of doing one on my own. I was lurking through the custom car skins and I found the perfect match for me. I was looking at this tutorial (http://www.tdumods.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?377) and I did step by step. However, when I get to step 15, I still can't see the paintjob I replaced the original one with. Someone please tell me what am I missing here.. I still see the original paintjob.
i bet you $50 you didn't follow the tutorial exactly if you had it would be working Ahh my paint splash merc skin. it is one of my favs...
Biggest thing people dont do.. Be in the paintshop ALL THE TIME. The only time you shouldnt be in the paintshop is when you have just paid for a sticker/paint job and you have to leave. As soon as you can go back in, do it.
ok step by step the ( i think ) short way, im going from memory here and thats never reliable lol
1 Take your car to the paintshop, and stick some bright green stickers over it ( the colour is optional but bright green is easy to see). Pay for the stickers and leave the shop, now go back in. Quit the game ( dont leave the shop and quit, you must be in the shop before you quit the game)
2 Run texmod in logging mode, make sure the file type is set to PNG.. when the game starts and you are in the paintshop, scan through memory untill you find your skin, now export/save it... Quit the game ( again do not leave the paintshop)
3 Put the downloaded skin in the same folder as your exported skin ( probably Texmod/out ) copy the NAME of your exported skin, now delete your exported skin. now paste that filename over your downloaded skin name. EXAMPLE.. Your downloaded skin is called "Merc paint splash.png" and your exported/saved skin is called a1b2c3d4.png.. Rename the merc paint splash.png to a1b2c3d4.png ( remember to delete your exported skin file as it wont let you have two files with the same name)
4 Go back to Texmod and go into package build mode and make your package file. now switch to the other package mode.. load your package and click its name in the list in the left hand box ( so you see your comment in the right hand box). Now choose Run ...
5 The game should start, you should appear in the paintshop and your car should now have the new skin on it, you just need to apply a single tiny ( or transparent ) sticker to the car so you have something you need to pay for. Now pay for the sticker and leave.
How can you not do it that way ? you export a skin, you replace it for a custom one, you import it back in. thats kind of the required factors for swapping a texture ?
The only other things i do is make sure your in the paintshop for all of it, as that gives you less chance of your texture vanishing. There isnt anything else that is required.
any idea what part you did differently that stopped it from working first time around? if you can let us know we could make a change to the tutorial if it isnt worded very well or something.. Or if it was just something you missed out, then it could be something that others also miss out..
Also now you got it working.. lets see you post pictures with some cool skins

Ya.. the part where I had to place a sticker, then QUIT the game before exporting the sticker to my "Out" folder. Usually, what I used to do, place a sticker, leave the paintshop, re-enter it and save the sticker.. However, when I tried it differently.. I placed the sticker, left paintshop, reentered, then I quit the game. I restarted the game, exported the sticker then I quit again to continue with the following steps.
ahhh so you had gone to the paintshop with logging mode already running. then applied your sticker, left and re-entered, then exported your skin.. yeah that can sometimes cause the memory segments to get a bit messed up.. similar to if you are outside when you import the new skin, you see it on your car, then enter the paintshop and its suddenly gone. its because the memory block has got shuffled around a bit..
Thats why i try and keep you in the paintshop as much as possible, so you get less chances for that memory block to go walkies
Well now you know how to do it, it will seem like the easiest thing in the world, you will wonder how you managed to not get it working first go

I've also found a different method of placing custom car skins on unpaintable cars. Instead of swapping cars and doing all of the other steps you have mentioned in the tutorial. I've used this TestDrive2.exe that basically unlocks all Paintshop for all cars. So I used that exe to paint those unpaintable cars. It also saved me a lot of time, effort and worked perfectly. I think you should also add to your tutorial. If you need the .exe, I can always upload for you.
Yes, thats the method we all use these days. It is fairly common knowledge that this is how we now paint unpaintable cars we already have a thread in the mods section for the actual paintshop unlocker. so you can turn ANY tdu exe into an unlocked paintshop version Personally i wouldnt use ANY exe that you didnt modify yourself as you can never be truly sure the exe is safe. Thats why i only use exe's i unlock myself.
BTW when you used this "new" exe you did remember to backup your original one didnt you ??
Also NO you cannot upload the exe. it is against the rules to share game files, especially the games main exe file.. Thanks for the offer but we dont need it as anyone can make an unlocked exe these days.
Actually , thinking about it. I'm just gonna remove the entire second half of that tutorial. It is no longer needed, its old, outdated (it was written back in november last year) so there is no point having it anymore...

Oh okay. Yes, I for one backup every little move I do on TDU 2. I have a series of different .exe in my gaming folder and each one has a different role. There is one for unlocking all cars only, there is another one for painting unable cars, and there is the original one that I always backup. Along with that, I do a daily backup of my savegame. I don't want to risk losing my savegame over a little glitch. Thanks for the headsup though.
yeah i keep several exe's as backup as well. i have original Build 6 (the one you use to hack cars), build 15 and build 16 exe's in my backup folder. Then in my main game folder i have a paintshop unlocked build 6 and a paintshop unlocked build 16.
Actually the save game problems don't really happen any more. i certainly havent had any problems for a good 6 months now. I make a backup every month or so now.. it doesnt matter if you loose all your cars and houses, the only things that matter now are how much money do you have and what game level you are on. As long as you have money you can buy cheap cars and hack them to be whatever you want and you need money to buy houses to store them all in. Mind you these days as long as you have the casino DCL you dont even need to worry about money as thats hackable as well..
So the only thing you REALLY need a backup for is to keep your Game level the same.. everything else can be got again very easily...

Oh wait the casino pack is hackable as well? So I spent nearly $30 bucks on buying Atari tokens for no reason? Wow I should have visited this site at first when I bought this game. XD
